Story

JOB DONE!

Thank you everyone!

Final update before the big off!!

With less than 2 weeks to go before the start I am writing this with a mix of emotions.  On the one hand I am very excited about the epic adventure ahead but on the other more than a little bit worried!!

I have trained hard and have received incredible support from a whole range of people from my coach to the guys at the bike shop as well as friends and family.  This has given me the encouragement to keep going to get to the start line ready to roll.

As many of you know I am more than a little determined so I am going to give it my very best even though I know its going to get a little painful along the way.  Thank god for anti chafe cream!?!

I have been overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity which still continues to this day.  I am riding for a cause dear to my heart and I hope that what I have managed to raise will make a difference to other peoples lives in the future.

Best wishes

Richard

Update - April 2021

Hi Everyone

Well its been a while since I updated my page, but I have been training hard over the winter. Honest.  I did slip up a bit over Christmas but hey..

I am pleased to say LEJOG is on for this September!!

Dates for your diary - start 4th September at Lands End for 9 glorious days finishing at John O’Groats 12th September.  Days 4 and 5 come through the North West starting in Ludlow to Haydock then Haydock to Carlisle. Looking forward to seeing people on their bikes whether it’s for an hour or the full day!

I am both excited and apprehensive as it will be a huge challenge - but I will do it for sure.

Thank you again for donating to my cause.

Best

Richard

Hi Everyone

I just wanted to update you on a few things.

Firstly, I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to my Just giving page. I have been humbled by everyone’s generosity and lovely comments.

Secondly, the bad news. I heard on Friday that LEJOG has been cancelled due to Coronovirus. Its the sensible thing to do given everything that is going on but disappointing nevertheless. So the ride wont be until until September 2021.

Finally, for everyone that has said they will ride along with me make sure you get training!!!

Best Wishes

Richard

The shirt has arrived! My training has started in preparation for the marathon Lands’ End to John O’Groats bike ride from 5th – 13th September 2020.

Why did I sign up to this?  It’s nearly 1000 miles, lots of hills and over 100 miles per day!!

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the end of 2018.  I had an operation in January 2019.  Unfortunately whilst they took my prostate away, some cancer cells had already spread to other parts of my body so I now have advanced prostate cancer.  The doctors say it cannot be cured.  We’ll see about that!

Before you think, what an idiot – you’re mad; I am doing it to support the incredible people who have helped me over the last year or so at the Christie and Prostate Cancer UK.  So I am riding for them and for me.

Now I’ve done charity work over the years but nothing quite like this.  This is really important to me.  I would really appreciate it if you would please support me so I can raise as much money as possible.

Now I know some of you are proper cyclists, so why not come and join me along the way?!  I already have a domestique who has offered to ride through Scotland with me.  It would be nice to have your company anywhere on the route even if it’s only for a few miles.

I will keep you posted on my training but in the meantime please give generously.
