Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - Rick raises more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for his charity.

The organising committee is pleased to report that after only 43 days Rotarian Rick Stacey completed his mission, to take an iconic green box that is saving lives around the world on a cycle ride from one end of New Zealand to the other. He started on 1 November 2010 and on 12th December in brilliantly fine weather, he pedalled the last kilometres of his trip from Bluff at the bottom of the South Island to Cape Reinga Lighthouse in the Far North of the North Island (around 2,000 kilometres) towing his ShelterBox in a trailer behind him. Amazingly, the entire trip was done without the need to wear any wet weather gear, and there were only a few occasions when wind made the trailer unstable on the road, requiring it to be transferred to his support vehicle.

On arrival at the Cape, Rick was welcomed by family, friends, Kerikeri Rotarians and Hon. John Carter, M.P. for Northland and Minister for Civil Defence. Mr Carter commented that Rick’s ride reinforced the Government’s message to New Zealanders that we must all be personally prepared for catastrophic events at any time.

Rick is a 65 year old Kerikeri Rotarian who has recently beaten prostrate cancer.  He spends six months in Kerikeri, New Zealand every year and six months in his home town of Helston in Cornwall U.K., the base for international disaster relief organisation ShelterBox.

Rick has been promoting and raising funds for ShelterBox.  In New Zealand, Australia and the U.K. a total of over £4,600 has been raised to date for ShelterBox during this adventure.  Rick thanks his many sponsors and supporters – in particular his best friend who loaned the support car, his support drivers, FnF Fuels in Kerikeri, Bay of Islands, N.Z. who supplied all the petrol, and the many Rotarians who opened their homes and made the trip possible.

We are now in the process of wrapping up the Bluff to Cape Ride for Shelterbox and encourage everyone who wishes to donate to this worthy cause to do so as soon as possible by using this site.

To those who have already given to this worthy cause and supported Rick in his efforts, a very big thank you and a very Merry Christmas to you all.
