Story

I will never forget the image of my son’s blonde hair waving from under a blanket and straps as he was loaded onto a helicopter… of his little toddler body dwarfed by wires and tubes… of him being carried in the world’s smallest coffin.

Riley was the last child to die in the landmark 1993 “Jack-in-the-Box” E.coli outbreak.  Since then, I have witnessed a seemingly endless cycle of crisis and reform.  I have also worked with many incredible food safety leaders, experts, and organizations whose work has helped industry and consumers.

My son was only 16 months old when he became Ill from another child in his daycare.  While he only started to take his first steps and form his first sentences, his story has told volumes and inspired countless efforts.
