Story

Hi everyone,

This year I've signed up to do the London Marathon, having never run further than 8km before. This is an enormous challenge and will definitely be one of the most difficult things i'll have ever done. Now I'm in no-man's-land in terms of target times, but my brother Andy ran it last year in 4 hrs 9 mins - so this seems a good target to try and beat.....wishful thinking maybe but i'll give it a good go!

I am raising money for Friends of Canterbury Oast Trust, who are a fantastic charity based in Kent, who pride themselves on providing safe, stimulating and fulfilling lives for adults with learning disabilities - including my sister Sammy!

Sammy is 35 years old, and has severe learning disabilities, struggling to speak, read or write, but she has always pushed herself, helped by both family and the specialist schools she has attended to achieve above and beyond her forecast potential. She moved into one of Canterbury Oast Trust's supported living houses over 10 years ago and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

All the residents at C.O.T. are given the platform to work and provide a meaningful contribution in agriculture, horticulture, woodwork and craft. They are also encouraged to pursue hobbies including sports, music and drinking in the local pub! All this is overseen by dedicated staff and carers, often with 1:1 care.

I have seen over the years the difference this amazing charity makes to the lives of it's residents, in ensuring they are continually engaged, and challenged, all while in a safe and supportive environment. Friends of C.O.T. plays a vital role in supporting and funding these activities.

Please do consider donating generously to this cause, as it has made a huge difference to the life of my sister and many others. Every £1 raised goes to a worthy cause.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I'd better get started with training now! Oh dear.....
