Story

Tues 9/3 -  once again a big thanks to all who so kindly donated. I finished the race in 1 hour 55 mins 38 secs - well inside the 2 hour target. It was bitterly cold with a nasty head-wind on the return part of each circuit - but even so  it was a great event. Huge crowds, loads of encouragement from Macmillan supporters and really good organisation. An ideal first half marathon for me (or anyone else for that matter). What to do next....??

Tues 2/3 Update - nearly there - all that remains now is to not get injured, avoid people with colds and eat loads of pasta, rice, brown bread. It's recommended that you give up tea, coffee & booze too - so the next few days will probably drag by due to lack of stimulants (yes I know alocohol is a depressant). Thanks loads to my new sponsors. Next update......post race!

Tues 23/2 Update - all downhill now; the last long run (10.5 miles) completed last Sunday; so it's just the odd three or four mile trots every few days (technically called 'tapering' I've been told). I will admit to one visit to the physio for a bit of achilles tlc; but it seems better now (thanks to Gayle  of Trinity House Practice in Macclesfield). A huge thanks to all my donors - with a bit of luck I might make £750. Rob

Sun 14/2 Update - thanks for the donations to date. My paper sponsor form is also looking good  - upto £165 so far (so nearly halfway to my £500 target).  I tried the full 13 miles and a bit today - 2 hrs 35 seconds - I ache a bit but it bodes well for the race proper. All the best. Rob

Hi there.....thanks for taking the time to visit my very first JustGiving page created cos......

.....on Sunday March 7th 2010 I will be running the Bath Half Marathon on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support. I'm doing it for two main reasons:

1. selfish, age-challenging, 'prove I can still do it' type stuff

2. to raise as much money as I can for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of my mate Pete Jones who died from cancer last year.

3. to prove those wrong who said I couldn't run a 'Bath'

4. fear, surprise and a fanatical devotion to the Pope....

I aim to break the two hour barrier and training is going well despite the arctic conditions; I can now also do double bows on my running shoes.

Cancer will impact all of us in some way during our life-time. Macmillan Cancer Support Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. For every pound you donate to me, Barclays Bank (via its £4£ staff scheme) will generously donate an additional pound; so please dig deep and help me massively exceed my £500 target.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks so much.

Love.   Rob xxx
