Story
In August 2013 our world fell apart as my fourteen year old daughter, Chloe, was diagnosed with cancer - Hodgkin's lymphoma in fact. There was no quick fix, no magic wand and for me I couldn't fix it I couldn't make it better I was used to sorting things out that's what us Dads do but I couldn't we had to put our daughters recovery in the Hospitals hands .She would undergo 4 rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the wonderful Royal Mrarsden Hospital, in Surrey. The treatment was harsh and tough, there were lots of tears, hair loss, and sleepless nights from the steroids, which in turn caused weight gain. However, right at the beginning we came into contact with the fantastic 'Children with Cancer Fund', who straight away paid for our car park at the hospital whilst Chloe was on treatment. At that point it was just the fact that people were there to support us that made such a difference, not the money as that doesn't enter your thinking at the time. From there they continued to support us as a family, inviting us to family days out and giving us the opportunity to meet others in the same position - even taking us on a mini break to the Isle of Wight - helping us to pick up the pieces after such a shock. They continue to support us now, and up until Chloe's eighteenth birthday, but I am sure we will always be part of their family.
We are extremely thankful that Chloe is now in remission. It has been 2 years and 3 months since she finished treatment, and we continue to attend regular check ups at the Royal Marsden. On Christmas Eve Chloe will be turning 18, she is currently studying for her A levels and she has just achieved A in psychology and health and social care mocks and and we are so proud of her, and her sisters, with how they have coped, and that is hugely down to the Children with Cancer Fund (CWCF).
This is why me and my good friends Joe Noya and Paul Hunnisett will be taking part in CWCF's 'Run to Run' Event during the end of May. All money raised will go towards the a Children with Cancer Fund, helping them to continue the amazing work they do.
