As I'm sure many of you know, I have an Air Force background and have spent many hours in aircraft.  I now work as a Chaplain serving Hinchingbrooke Hospital.  

I thought that if I tried flying from on top of a wing, which is scheduled to happen on the 10^th July if the weather holds, I could ask you to sponsor this mad enterprise so that our hospital Special Care Baby Unit and Adult Critical Care Unit, where so much devoted and highly-skilled care takes place, could benefit from your generosity.  

Both units deal with patients at the edge of survival and work tirelessly to achieve positive outcomes.  This is not always possible and our Chaplaincy supports the staff on these units and the parents, partners, families and friends when things get difficult or when, despite the delivery of amazing intensive care and highly-professional nursing, a patient is lost.  

I have spoken with the lead nurses on these wards and they know that any monies raised will be put to use in the purchase of additional equipment to enhance the experience and the outcomes for their patients and for the close relatives anxiously awaiting signs of improvement and return to health.  The staff already do so much and they look forward to being able to do more.  Their list of wants is big but carefully thought through for best effect.  Their hearts are big and they will be grateful for anything you can do.
