In December 2012 my two year old grandson Brody was diagnosed with leukaemia, this was to change all our lives.
Brody is now two and a half years into his three year treatment, and while he is progressing well, some of the side effects have been awful. He has oral chemotherapy every day and has various tests and procedures on Thursdays at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle.
At the Children's Cancer Run in May 2013 Brody and his sister Jessie, ran the mini mile and Brody asked why I couldn't run. I was overweight and very unfit but I promised him I would run it the following year. I followed the c25k training plan and started to run.
In May 2014 I ran the mini mile with Jessie and Brody. It was the most emotional thing I have ever done and I feel privileged to have been part of such an amazing event.
To my surprise I discovered that I loved running and have joined a jogscotland group, ran a few races and train 3 times a week in all weathers.
Running has changed my life and now I am asking you to help change the lives of children like Brody. I find fundraising very difficult as I know everyone has their favourite charities they support.
I am running The Great North Run (13.1 miles) on September 13th and am asking everyone who donates to guess my finishing time. There will be a prize for the person whose guess is closest to my official time.
You can also donate by Text Giving.
