Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Many of you may know how devastating kidney disease is first hand, through friends or through the media and how this is a life changing event for the person, not to mention loved ones.  There are still many unknowns as to how we lose kidney function and the mechanisms involved that cause scarring and loss.  In the past this meant death, now it means dialysis three times a week or daily for life, unless kidney transplantation is an option.  Again scarring may occur in the transplant kidney over time and so there is until now no cure and hence the need to look, to discover and to understand so we can fight kidney disease.

The South West Thames Kidney Fund (http://kidneyfund.org.uk) is a registered charity (No.800952) that does research into diabetes and kidney disease.  It looks to understand how this loss occurs so that these discoveries bring us closer to new treatments. Many of you know how passionate I am about this, such that I'll be getting into a Dragon boat to race this summer whilst attempting not to fall into the River Thames!  Come help support by saving nephrons, saving kidneys, saving and changing lives!
