For my birthday this year, I would like to raise funds for the Film and Television freelance and self-employed community, for whom many have had their livelihoods instantly shut down due to the COVID 19 virus, with little or no notice or financial compensation. In the UK, BECTU (Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theatre Unions) estimates that around 50,000 industry freelancers have lost their jobs due to the virus. With productions and filming scrapped for the forseeable future, the industry and more importantly its workers have taken a catastrophic hit.

The Film and Television Society is an industry charity that helped me personally during an extended period of ill health and subsequent unemployment. They help Film and TV professionals by offering financial grants, professional and legal advice and a 24-7 support line. I am forever grateful for their financial assistance and support during a difficult and isolating time and for helping me get on my feet again the other side. There is a special section and advice on their website to assist all affected by COVID 19.
