Story

I have said for years that I wanted to run a marathon before I'm 30. 3 years ago I couldn't even run 5km, and having completed a few half marathons, it's time to face the big challenge! Is now a good time to mention that I was coerced into signing up after a few gins at a wedding...

I'm undertrained as I simply haven't had time to run as much as I should have, so am relying purely on base fitness and determination. I fully expect not to be able to walk for days afterwards.
I wasn't going to run for a charity but as many people have rightly pointed out - I should because it's a big achievement...or it will be if I finish!

As ever I've paid for my own entry so there's no pressure to raise anything, but hey even if we only raise a small amount for this great cause then that's fab.

I chose Farms for City Children because I treasure living somewhere where I spend so much time outdoors, and am a huge believer in an active, healthy, outdoors life for everyone - especially for children - and this charity gives inner city children the opportunity to experience just that, children who may otherwise not ever get the opportunity to feed animals and run around fields.
The picture of the letter (credits to Farms for City Children Facebook page) from a child who spent a week away with the chairty says it all!

Here's a little info about the charity, taken from their website:

We offer urban children from all over the country a unique opportunity to live and work together for a week at a time on a real farm in the heart of the countryside.

We need to raise over £1m every year to enable over 3,200 children to enjoy a week on one of our three farms. Please help by making a donation today that will give more children a week of muck and magic.

Thank you for your support.

About the charity

Founded in 1976 by children's writer Michael Morpurgo and wife Clare. A weeks stay on one of our working farms aims to develop potential, build self-esteem and enrich the lives of 3,200 children from inner cities, and towns annually. Many are disadvantaged and some have special educational needs.
