Story
Attempting a !
A group of friends and work colleagues have decided in their limited wisdom, that attempting a marathon is a good idea and might be something that could help raise a bit of money for Ulster Cancer Foundation.
Our group consists of 8 runners. 5 of us are running in the Oslo Marathon (26/9/10) and the 3 remaining group members are running the Dublin Marathon(25/10/10).
Our group has varying levels of fitness but as of 12 weeks before the Oslo Marathon, none of us had ever run further than 8 miles in one go. Some group members had never even run further than 2 miles!
We have 2 group members taking on the 13.1 mile half-marathon and the remaining 6 runners attempting the full 26.2 mile marathon.
Any of you who have attempted a Marathon or Half-Marathon know how physically and mentally demanding running this sort of distance is and for those of you who don’t, picture waking up on a Saturday morning, having your breakfast, putting on your running gear, running out your front door and not stop running for approximately 5 hours. This is a good time for a beginner running a marathon.
We have all trained very hard for this and have adjusted or lifestyles to fit in the training required. If any of you are interested in what training we have done the I will forward you my training plan and you will see the commitment it has required.
Our group has battled through injury and some horrible weather to train for this so please find it in your hearts to help with this amazing charity and dig deep into your wallets/ purses/ pockets/ bank accounts to help us help those less fortunate than us.
My final plea to you!
Please do me this favour. Please pass this website and/ or the relevant information to your friends and family, even if you decide not to donate yourself. If you pass it on to 2 people and they pass it on, you WILL make a massive difference in peoples lives!
It is said that roughly 1 in 3 people will get cancer. This money will be used to help those whose lives are affected by this. For more information on the how Ulster Cancer Foundation use their donations and the brilliant work they do, please visit the website below.
