The aim of the Sandpiper Trust is to help save lives in Scotland by improving immediate care, especially in remote and rural areas.

Minimising the time taken to get to an accident or sudden illness in Scotland maximises the chance of saving lives. The Sandpiper Trust donates responders to doctors who are directly linked to the Scottish Ambulance Service through a vehicle locator system. This means that the Ambulance Service can immediately call these doctors to incidents when they are closer that the nearest ambulance, which is often the case.
The charity has a special meaning to me, along with the family and friends of Michael McNaughton.
Back in January 2012, Michael died in a tragic car collision along the A9 near Dunkeld.
Michael played rugby for Scotland's under-18s as a centre. Scottish rugby described him as "powerful and hard-running" as well as "extremely talented" and "a great athlete".
He was also an incredibly intelligent young man, gaining a First in Law from the University of Aberdeen. He went on to gain Distinction in Oil and Gas Management MSc at the same university, as well as being given the award for best student in the same course. His potential was limitless.
He left behind a loving family: his parents, sister and girlfriend. As well as a rich tapestry of friends.
At his funeral, Michael's family asked for donations to the Sandpiper Trust in honour of Michael.
