So, I'm going to Uganda, to help to build a secondary school; actually laying bricks and mortar that is.  

This may surprise you because a) I am incredibly lazy, and b) my pale skin will probably get burnt to a crisp by the African sun...

But this is an amazing project which will make such a difference to the lives and future of this community, so I am incredibly excited to be a part of it.

I need to raise £1000 to cover the costs of my flights and to contribute towards the building materials. As this is being run through Ogilvy, I have been fundraising through work but am also relying heavily on contributions from friends and family to reach my target, so please dig deep!

 

Here is a bit more information on the project, and what we are trying to achieve;

Did you know only 4 out of every 10 of children in get to go to secondary school?
Imagine yourself as a 12 year old again, but living in a very small rural village. You want an education…but quite simply there aren’t enough schools.

If there is a place for you, your nearest school will be around 15 miles away. There’s no transport and you can’t afford a bike, so you’ll have to walk. Even then, you’re desperately needed at home to collect firewood, to cook, to work in the fields to grow food for your family. Plus you will have to walk more than a mile a day just to collect water…that may or may not be drinkable.  Unfair isnt it...

We believe that education is essential to overcoming poverty. And that’s why we’ve decided that Ogilvy Group should do something to really help.

What's our goal?
In the small town of , , Ogilvy Group wants to build a secondary school...for 450 children! It’s ambitious but we believe that with everyone’s support, in whatever way is personally appropriate, we will do it.

We are sending a workforce of 10 people out to for a week in August to help start the digging and building.  Your donations will help kick off our 5 year plan to build:

- 12 classrooms

- A kitchen

- A dining hall

- A library

- A laboratory

- 8 staff houses and dorms for the boys and girls

And provide the site wtih electricity, desks, textbooks, laboratory equipment and a very large water tank
