I bet you are shocked to read I am going to cycle a minimum of 100 miles, so am I! This is the person who used to go 100 metres down the street to the butchers in her car 😂

Why am I doing this? At the beginning of lockdown John got a bike, started cycling and the weight fell off him. Let’s just say I was a little jealous! Although at this point I had started walking but his advice was for me “to up my game and get on my bike!” My reply to this was “you best pump my tyres up then!”. He did, and when he got in from work the next day he jokingly asked if I’d managed to go out on my bike! Let’s just say he was shocked when I said yes! This was around the middle of May.  I have been going out 3 times a week and going a little further each time.  One of my goals was to cycle to Elstonwick to my dad’s grave, which I did on the Friday before Fathers Day.  

On my way back I started thinking about how I could turn my cycling into a positive thing and soon came up with trying to raise some much needed funds for Dove House Hospice, who like every other charity in these strange times are struggling. Dove House have supported our family through the loss of our much loved dad and great aunt 5 years ago and then more recently our beautiful Auntie Joan who passed away last November. In memory of these dear people I hope to raise £1000 for Dove House Hospice Hull.

As soon as I told Diane, my sister and a Senior Nurse at Dove House Hospice, of my intentions, she emailed Dove House to inform them, no backing out now then!! John also went into the garage to make a sign to promote this and a robin flew into the garage and sat on the window sill next to him.  He came in and said “I think your dad approves”. ❤️

So during July I will cycle a minimum of 100 miles.  This may not seem far to some of you but let me tell you if someone had said to me at the beginning of May that I’d cycle 100 miles in a month they might as well have said I’d cycle to the moon and back!!
