Hello Ladies and Gents,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On 19th September I will be running the Great North Run and I thought it was a good opportunity to raise some money for LUPUS UK.

LUPUS UK is a national charity that helps those with systemic lupus (SLE) and discoid lupud (DLE). Althought it is not widely heard of lupus is an extremely common disease, affecting some 50,000 people worldwide, 90% of whom are female. SLE causes the body's immune systme to go into overdrive and attack itself. The symtoms are many and varied and often mimic other diseases which can sometime result in the condition being overlooked. As yet there is no cure.

As well as support to diagnosed members and their families, a large aim of LUPUS UK is to increase public awareness of the disease and to increase research into the the causes.
