Story
There is no NHS funding for powered mobility for children under the age of 4 yrs old. Designability make Wizzybugs available, free of charge, to children in the UK with conditions such as Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Muscular Dystrophy. My son Alfie received his Wizzy at the age of 18 months old. He quickly realised he could manoeuvre himself closer to the TV to watch a favourite programme or away from something he didn't want to do, such as singing with his peers at Playgroup. Wizzy enabled Alfie to take part in activities at pre-school such as the ride-on play time, in the hall. Wizzy equipped Alfie with fantastic driving skills ready for when he received his powered wheelchair, a few months before his 4th birthday. He was, by this time, an accomplished driver and took maximum advantage of the independence his new chair provided. Alfie sadly passed away on 25th December 2015. I know for certain, in the short time Alfie was with us, Wizzy had a massive impact on his quality of life and his development. It costs a total of £4,750 to build a Wizzy and support the child and family with the equipment loan. I am aiming to raise as much as I possibly can, to go some way towards this. I am also trying to raise awareness of this wonderful charity to families who may be unaware. Thank you for visiting my just giving page. Please share my page to spread the Wizzy love. Any donations are also very gratefully received.
