Thank you for visiting this page, let me tell you a little more about why this is so important to me. Orchid are the only Uk charity who raise money for male-specific cancers, as a woman a number of people may wonder why this is such a priority for me however I hope I can explain... 

Around a year ago I was sat, unusually to be honest, watching 'This Morning' during what I soon found out was 'Prostate awareness week'. As I listened to the various professionals discussing the prevalence of male cancers I was shocked to discover that testicular cancer was the most common cancer among men as young as 15 up to 45. With two brothers and various friends and family members within this age bracket who I was sure weren't as aware as they perhaps should be I quickly got on the case of raising awareness at least among them! I was horrified that whilst women are publicly and openly encouraged to check their breasts regularly and so on, men are given little information and encouragement despite the statistics being so similar.

I have previously done sponsored runs for cancer research and breast cancer UK but felt that this time male cancer awareness needed to be raised.

When my grandfather was admitted to hospital last year with cancer I was very impressed with the efficiency of treatment and level of care that he received, when visiting him I was shocked to see the number of young men in the same ward being treated for cancer, the majority I discovered suffering from testicular or prostate cancer. So when I was approached by Orchid I didn't hesitate in running for their charity.

Regretfully, I have also seen first hand the impact cancer can have not only on the sufferer but on their surrounding family and friends. It is hard not to get angry at the cruelty of the disease that is cancer. My dearly loved uncle has been suffering with the particularly aggressive form of cancer 'non-hodgkin's lymphoma' for over 5 years and the strength and courage I have witnessed in him and my fantastic auntie and cousins brings tears to my eyes.

ANY MONEY RAISED OVER £250 WILL BE DONATED TO THE LYMPHOMA CHARITY THAT IS SO AVIDLY SEARCHING FOR A CURE AND PROVIDING WONDERFUL SUPPORT TO MY FAMILY AND THOUSANDS OF OTHERS IN THE SAME BOAT.

So...please everyone dig deep and give what you can! If you cannot help me financially please contact me with any fundraising ideas or suggestions as the more money and awareness I can raise in order to beat this terrible disease the better.
