Story

I wish to challenge the very concept of fear and how it frames the parameters of my life and so I have decided to do the one thing which would perhaps scare me more than anything else.

Why? Perhaps because I recognise that most of my fears are in my head, so if I can find a way to not only breathe through and survive, but to actually enjoy and have fun doing something so physically terrifying, then I know I can change my mindset about anything!

Having paused with rising panic at every single stage of this signing up process to breathe and assess whether I can actually go through with it,  here I am at the no backing out point 😬.

Whilst I will be landing safely and jubilantly amongst family & friends (and yet still so scared), this really brings home how courageous and self-less the airmen were who took part in the D-day landings this jump commemorates.  Which brings me to why the work of this charity is so important.  A rising number of veterans returning from similar war zones, who have risen to challenges I couldn't even conceive of facing, can find themselves homeless upon returning; and unsurprisingly not always able to deal with the trauma they have been through.  Alabare not only provide them with a safe place to call home, but much needed mental and emotional support to adjust to a new way of life.  It is important for them to know that people care what they went through and allow them to bring out the gifts they have brought back from their experiences, so they can contribute once again.

Having spent many years immersed in the world of mind-body connection, it feels the right time to turn fear on its head and put the body into a position where fear would be a natural response and ask the mind instead to trust and rejoice at living in the moment.  A bold request as I free-fall into the unknown at over a hundred miles an hour...

Courage is a work in progress, one step at a time.....one small step out of a plane, one giant leap of faith....!
