Story
In 2015, I started writing my play, SELLING KABUL, about Taroon, an Afghan interpreter for the U.S. military, who is awaiting his promised visa to America while in grave danger. In conjunction with the NYC production, I am hosting this fundraiser for the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) through the end of performances, December 23.
IRAP has helped countless individuals in Taroon's position find safe passage to the United States. In light of the recent withdrawal, IRAP has been working around the clock to help as many people as possible get to safety as conditions in Afghanistan rapidly deteriorate. They need our help.
Your donation would go to helping IRAP:
- Provide hundreds of at-risk Afghans (including Afghan allies, women’s rights activists, LGBTQ+ individuals, NGO workers, and
many others at risk of being targeted by the Taliban) with urgent case assistance and time-sensitive solutions. - Lead advocacy and communication efforts urging the Biden Administration to do everything in its power to provide safe passage to Afghan allies and others at risk.
- Disseminate the most current and accurate information possible for Afghans in peril to understand what options exist for them.
- Plan and build capacity for the work required in the months and years ahead to provide legal and advocacy support for at-risk Afghans in their country, in third countries, and in the United States.
With great thanks,
