The Campaign Against Living Miserably, CALM, is a charity dedicated to preventing male suicide in the UK through practical support, including a helpline and online services, and by promoting long-term cultural change.
The statistics are frightening, with over 13 men each day taking their own lives. Male suicide is the single biggest killer of men aged 20 - 45 in the UK and accounts for more deaths than road accidents, HIV and assaults combined.
Together with my sons, Craig & Elliot, we are doing what we can to raise funds by taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. This 25 mile route takes in the summits of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. With a combined height of over 7,000 feet, the challenge is to complete the course in under 12 hours.
CALM offers invaluable support to vulnerable men and yet struggles to
raise funding and awareness. Every £6 raised can fund a potentially
life saving call.
Suicide is a tragedy for those whose lives are lost and
is shattering for those left behind. Any donation you can make to help us raise money for this invaluable service will be gratefully received.
NB. I'm pleased to say we completed the challenge on 30th May 2015 in 9hrs 47mins. Many thanks to everyone who donated.
