Story

“START provides a range of services for people of all ages, and genders who have suffered sexual trauma and are recent, or past survivors of rape or sexual abuse/assault. This includes 121 counselling, groupwork and peer support programmes. People who have experienced rape and sexual abuse often face multiple challenges which can lead to difficulties managing mental health issues including anxiety, stress, trauma symptoms and depression.”

Shannon: The support, patience and understanding from my counsellors at Rasac got me through the hardest years of my life after sexual assault. With this incredible charity, I have learnt to channel the shame of abuse into strength and courage, use techniques and practices to overcome and prevent panic attacks, and understand the new version of myself. Letting go of the guilt and shame was a painful process, but one which meant I can be here today, sharing my experience and giving back to the charity which gave me so much.

The dream team, Anna, Dannie, Abbie, Georgia, Alice, who have supported me through every step of my journey, and myself will be completing this year’s 15k Tough Mudder in support of RASAC.  We’re ramping up training in preparation to complete more obstacles, tackle our mental fears and run further than ever. Join us for this adventure where we will be posting updates before the big day and if you can donate, be it £1 or £100, to this essential charity, just know it is so appreciated!
