Here is a letter from Billy Stone who wrote to Lords to tell them all about this event, I think this says it all

On the 17^th
September at the High Wycombe Cricket Club, we are having a memorial cricket
match for my late grandad; William (Bill) Stone, who sadly, suddenly passed
away on the 29^th of July. The proceeds of which are going to the
Southern Ambulance Charity and the RNLI. My grandad was a keen sportsman and
played many sports including cricket. He started off playing with his dad
(Pete) for the Lane End Village Cricket Team when he was a teenager, he played
for the same team into his late 40s. He was then grounds man at this club;
cutting the outfield, cutting the cricket strip, rolling the wicket and marking
the boundary lines. He also umpired at both Lane End and for the last two years;
Downley, the players of which are playing in the match, alongside his
ex-teammates. My grandad loved cricket, whether that meant playing, umpiring or
watching it on the television, as a result of this we had the original BBC
Cricket Theme; Soul Limbo playing at the end of his funeral, when we all stood
and applauded.

However, this is
not the end of the cricket legacy in our family as both my dad and uncle
continue to play cricket. My dad for Frieth Cricket Club (Who have just won the
league) and my uncle for Downley where my grandad umpired. And I know this
would make my grandad very proud.

I’ve also been
doing some research and found a newspaper article with a picture of my
Great-Great-Great Grandad and his cricket team from the 1890s in a 1960s
newspaper article which says he was ‘particularly
good at scoring on the off side and with late cuts’ also mentions his son
Stanley who is deemed ‘one of the best
captains Lane End ever had’ and his other son William, it then mentions my
Great-Grandad (Pete) as the captain of the (then) present team.

Cricket has been a
part of my family for generations and it would really mean a lot to me and my
family if you could help us honour that in any way you can.
