Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

7 years ago a very dutiful Dermatologist Dr Black discovered no less than 3 Melanoma on my legs, clearly a shock and a bit of a life changing moment for anyone. However thanks to her diligence and excellent levels of care at Leighton Hospital I had all the correct treatment I needed. Like a lot of people who go through these
life moments I wanted to do something to help others in my position and ideally prevent others from going through the intrusive surgery and treatment I had to have. As such I raised the money for a Mole Mapping device which proactively monitors high risk patients and alerts of any imminent problems before they develop into Melanoma.

I am still under their dutiful watch and recently discovered the funding to continue this service was at risk. If I can raise £2,500 I can update the equipment with new cameras, lenses and peripherals and keep this service going for all the local people. This is a specialist service and the only one outside of Manchester so it really does help people prevent a disease that if not detected will ultimately prove fatal. Cruel I know, but Melanoma is unfortunately one of the most dangerous forms of cancer, however if found early it can be treated and that’s where this Mole Mapping device is so important.  As such I am ‘Braving the Shave’ to raise the money needed. Shaving my head seems a small price to pay for such a good cause.

Nick Grierson will be joining me in the barber's chair...Nick was diagnosed with Stage 2 skin cancer back in May of this year and after undergoing corrective surgery is now keen to raise awareness. This is the first that a lot of his colleagues will know that he has had an all too common but curable cancer and we are both passionate about not only raising awareness, but doing all we can to help the NHS fight this disease. Nick will actually be in Pune on the big day, so we will both be completing this challenge via VC link up!

There will also be a cake sale, Tombola, and bucket collection taking place alongside the head shave, at Radbroke. The money raised will be matched £4£ by Barclays.

Anything you can give to help would be very much appreciated as I have made it my mission in life to keep this service open to all the community and help as many patients as possible.
