10th April 2018, as many of you know, I shall be setting off for 7 weeks to climb my first (and maybe last !) 8000 metre mountain. Cho Oyu is on the boarder of Tibet and Nepal and is the 6th highest mountain on the planet standing taller than the cruising hight of a Boeing 747 ! Only 600m lower than Everest, I am hopeful that with good weather, no injuries, lots of luck, some great sherpa’s and an amazing guide, I may be on record as one of the oldest women in the UK to summit Cho Oyu at 8201 metre.
5 years ago I entered this new world, full of amazing individuals, who thrive pushing themselves to the limits. Why ….. ? I still sometimes ask myself but Wilderness, new countries, new cultures / friends, physical challenges, amazing views and experiencing life at it’s very basic level. So doing something amazing for a great cause, all spring to mind.
My passion outside mountaineering would be Local Young people. Young guys and girls who live just a stones throw from me and who do not have a support system my kids so easily take for granted. Having met many local young people when I helped co-found ’The Feel Good Bakery ‘ (small sandwich operation employing young people in need of support) I realised many just need a helping hand and some guidance to move on in the right direction.
REGENERATE do this and I would like to support them, support young people in my area. If we raise enough we may even be able to take those that show some promise and open their eyes out in the wilderness up a mountain somewhere in the future. This would be my dream.
Any donations would be gratefully appreciated - thank you - and i’ll do my best to summit the 6th highest mountain on the planet!
Thank you
Sheena.
