Story

We're celebrating World Kidney Day 2015 (12 March) in Sheffield  by raising money for local research into kidney disease.

Every year Sheffield Kidney Institute (SKI), based at the Northern General Hospital, treats more than 2,000 people suffering from kidney disease.

More than 1300 of these patients undergo dialysis three times a week while awaiting a transplant. SKI carries out around 70 kidney transplants each year, however one person dies every day in the UK awaiting a kidney transplant.

To learn more about how kidney disease can devastate the lives of local people and their families, read the inspiring stories of  SKI patients Nicola Crispin, Robert Ashton , David Marshall, and Fiona Charlesworth here

"My son and niece have also inherited the condition. While we know that current research into kidney disease  will not help me and my brothers, it could help them and that’s very important to us.”                                                                                              Fiona Charlesworth

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is particularly prevalent among Afro Caribbean and Asian ethnic groups. People with high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and also a family history of the disease also have a higher risk of CKD.

Help make the lives of people suffering from CKD easier by funding research into new treatments and donating today.
