Story
We (Simon and Daniel) will attempt to scale the world's highest freestanding mountain and Africa's tallest peak - 5895m above sea level. We are joining a group from Northern Ireland on this 6 day trek between 20th-26th October.
It will be a huge personal challenge. However we are also motivated to raise vital funds for Befrienders for Disability who support the Metropolitan Sanctuary for Children with Disability in Nyeri, Kenya and offer friendship, days out and support for people with disabilities in Northern Ireland.
Rehabilitation services at Sanctuary in Kenya include; medical assessments, nursing care, medicine, physical and occupational therapy, an orthotics and prosthetics service and a specialised seating clinic, (with the seats and other rehabilitation devices specially made on site from recycled used cartons / cardboard!). The sanctuary offers midweek daily day care for children with disability, focusing on children who are normally kept alone indoors during the day. They also offer outreach clinics all over Kenya.
Through importing of donated goods, they offer regular provision of disability equipment and devices to both the service users and local hospitals and caregiving institutions. We want to help fund their pioneering work. Thank you for your help!
