Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 26th December 2012 my wonderful dad Chad Preedy died Aged 66. He had been seriously ill over the past three or so years with Alzheimers and Diabetes which are both debilitating illnesses. The doctors estimated that dad had being suffering with the slow onset of Alzheimer's for about 5 years before he was fully diagnosed with Vascular dementia. We as a very close family could never have imagined the full horror of what these terrible illnesses could do to such a wonderful man. Watching the dad that you love so dearly all your life disappear over the 3 years or so was the hardest thing my mum sue and my sister Hannah and Sarah my wife have ever had to endure. As the Ilnesses took hold and dads health deteriorated he still never moaned once and always smiled even though inside he knew he was not a well man at all. We never knew how little support and correct care that was needed for dad was out there, my mum always struggling and fighting for him all the way even to his last day. This is not right. I am doing this event to raise money to bring about the awareness needed for the care and well being of people like my wonderful dad. For those that knew my dad he was the most wonderful kind man you could ever meet and I miss him dearly. If he knew I was doing this he would say it was "faaaaannntastic".

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.
