We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

As you know I like to take on a challenge every now and again, and in 2010, I though I would test my levels of endurance.  What better way to do that than to attempt to run the Great North Run.

13.1 miles for some may be quite straight forward, but for someone like me who spends his time on the rugby pitch I am more used to short bursts of energy followed by a social pint of beer.  So the thought of running for almost 2 hours already has my legs protesting and I haven't even put on my trainers yet!!!

As you may be aware the Great North Run is one of the most popular sporting calendar events of the year.  Consequently thousands of people apply and demand for places is high.

I have been fortunate enough to have gained a place through Guide Dogs for the Blind, in return they have asked me to raise sponsorship to the tune of £300.  In the bigger scheme of things, there is little to complain about as I get to run in a fantastic event and they get additional sponsorship to help provide support to many needy people.

Guide Dogs for the Blind provide mobility and freedom to blind and partially sighted people.  They also campaign for the rights of people with visual impairment, educate the public about eye care and fund eye disease research.

I hope you would agree that Guide Dogs for the Blind provide help to a huge amount of people through their fantastic work.  And speaking as someone who has a , I know how much the dogs can become part of the family.

I would really appreciate your support in achieving this target, and any help you can give would be appreciated.
