I will be taking part in a transatlantic sailing event called the ARC (to be found on www.worldcruising.com) on a boat called “Sky Hunter”. The straight line distance is some 2800 miles (there is no opportunity to drop out half way!). There will be five of us on board, 3 senior citizens (I am the oldest!) plus the son and daughter-in-law of the boat’s owner.  We will be in a group of 194 boats, starting from the Canary Islands on 21^st November and finishing in about 3 weeks later. Each boat taking part is given a handicap depending on hull and sail dimensions, and a finishing order is calculated which contributes to making it into a race.

In return for your sponsorship we hope to send a regular progress log by email using our satellite phone. Progress will also be shown on the Worldcruising website which uses a GPS plotting system called ‘Yellowbrick’ to locate each boat.
