Story

Hi there!

I’m sophie and I’m addicted to cheese and wine,

I also have a connective tissue disorder that currently there is very little known about and treatment options are limited,

EDS covers a whole range of connective tissue disorders and comes in many forms,

Unfortunately for my poor broken body I have the hypermobile strain of this disorder,

Not to be a pity party but these are the symptoms-

Chorionic fatigue (no matter how much you rest there is no relief)

Chronic pain (basically every day you feel like you’ve been hit by a bus)

Frequent (mostly daily) joint dislocations and other related issues (slipped disks/ pins and needles/ cramp/ poor wound healing/ stomach issues/ mood fluctuations) to name but a few.

Basically this is all caused by not producing the right type of collagen (which is one of the key building blocks of our bodies) and it makes up all of our ligaments/ skin/ intestines etc, so when it’s not the grade a standard it needs to be things get a bit complicated.

Currently the treatment options are limited, I have birth defects in both of my legs so basically my body fights everyday to dislocate my own joints, but unfortunately because the related skin problems (scarring and problems healing) I can’t have any of these operations,

So what gets me through my day to day is consuming copious amounts of wine and cheese (which does well to ease the pain)

So in January I will be giving up alcohol for dry January and also doing veganuary (more of an environmental choice but if you wanna donate for that I’m game)

Even if you can spare 50p (I know January is literally the worse month of the year and it lasts about 6 months) I’d be so grateful for anything to help with any research and progress that can me done into treatment options for this disease (not so much for myself there are people that have a far worse deal than I myself)

Wish me luck and thanks in advance for anything you can give (even if it’s just your support)

Pray for me (and thanks if you’ve read al the way to the end of my rendition of war and peace 😂)
