Lisa & Matt's Story
In August 2014, after many years of suffering that eventually resulted in hospitalisation, just 4 days after our 1st Wedding Anniversary; my wife Lisa was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) at the age of 28.
We'd never heard of it!
UC is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease for which there is no cure. Lisa can only try to manage this through diet, medication and, if all else fails, surgery. Symptoms can be very unpleasant including chronic pain and complete exhaustion.
Since her diagnosis its unbelievable how many of our friends and family we have discovered also suffer with UC or Crohn's and have been suffering in silence for years as it's an embarrassing and demoralising disease for which awareness and understanding is still not widespread.
It's been extremely hard to watch my wife go through this but the help and support we have received through friends, family and the local IBD team has really helped us cope.
She has been unbelievably strong through it all and has remained optimistic even at her lowest moments. And there have been many......
It's time to give something back with the help of two crazy friends!!
We're running for our family and friends who have the runs and reckon that 26.2 miles is nothing when compared to the distance those suffering with Crohn's and Colitis run to the loo each year.
All roads lead to the London marathon 2016 but go via the Nottingham Half Marathon, the Leicester Half Marathon, Spooky Sprint, Santa Sprint and plenty of other races along the way. We'll run like the wind, walk if we have to, crawl if we must and sit on the floor and sulk if there are no pubs at the finish line.
We'd love it if you could support us in any way you see fit. Money on this page would be fabby dabby but we'd also love it if you'd prefer to come and cheers us on and throw cake as we cross the finish line. Cake, pastrami, bacon, cheese and biscuits, anything will do........FEED THE LEGS!! THEY HUNGER!
