Story
We are headed to the Sahara Desert to trek almost 30 miles over consecutive days. We will endure the cold nights and hot days while guides (and camels carrying our camp gear) help us find our ways through the ever changing dunes. We are doing this for a very special foundation who provides cancer support to others.
In honor of our 20th Wedding Anniversary in November, we decided to combine our favorite things .... travel, music, and making a difference! We are headed to Morocco to trek the Sahara. We are raising funds for one of our favorite charities ... the Love Hope Strength Foundation. All funds will go to cancer care projects in Africa. We are personally covering our own travel expenses. Your donation on this page will go to the foundation.
We were introduced to the Love Hope Strength Foundation through our late friend, Sean Ashford. At his 40th birthday party at House of Blues in Dallas, we met James Chippendale (US co-founder of LHS). James commented on Stacey's jewelry, all pieces DeAnna had made. From there, a full Love Hope Strength line was born, and grown into an over a decade-long partnership with DeAnna creating pieces for the LHS Foundation. The sales of the LHS collection have helped raise money for the foundation's work in both the US and the UK. From there, a friendship with the UK founders of LHS, Jules and Mike Peters of the Welsh band, The Alarm, grew. A couple we have grown to admire and respect as musicians, individuals and advocates for bringing hope, awareness, support to those battling cancer. Truly, two of the kindest and most generous people in the music business.
Founded in 2008 by Mike Peters of The Alarm and James Chippendale the Love Hope Strength Foundation promotes innovative, music related, outreach and awareness programs for leukemia and cancer sufferers, survivors and their families. The charity raises awareness and recruits potential donors to the organ and bone marrow registers. Treks to locations such as Everest, Kilimanjaro, Snowdon, Pikes Peak, The Grand Canyon and Fuji have funded projects in those regions. Love Hope Strength has also registered over 150,000 to the Bone Marrow Register and found over 3,000 potentially life-saving matches. Sahara Rocks, originally scheduled in 2020, was postponed. It is now taking place in November 2022. We are honored to be a part of this amazing Trek with other Love Hope Strength Foundation supporters.
Not only have we both volunteered for this organization for over a decade but we are both on the bone marrow registry. Our hope is to one day be matched with an individual needing this life saving procedure.
We have decided to set out on this trek in honor and memory of family and friends who have been affected by cancer. We will also be carrying prayer flags in memory of those we love. If your donation is in memory or honor of someone, please let us know and we will include their names on our prayer flags.
Please consider a donation (of any amount) to this worthwhile organization as part of our fundraising efforts. Many companies will also match donations and we can provide documentation to double your donations where possible.
