Photographer Stef Ferrucci presents in collaboration with ATD Fourth World: Embrace the world and its beauty, they are free gifts to all of us waiting to be valued and cherished irrespective of whether we are poor or wealthy.
This exhibition is a labour of love by Cambridge-based Photographer Stef Ferrucci. While travelling the world, Stef Ferrucci encountered people who despite living in extreme poverty, were happy and enjoyed the world and its beauty, as they only knew the reality they were born in.
On the other hand, in Western societies, there is plenty of wealth, however, there are numerous materially, financially and socially disadvantaged people, too. This is mainly due to illnesses and lack of a basic capacity to participate effectively in society. The poor in our societies often experience material deprivation and social exclusion, and knowing of a better reality that surrounds them and which is lived in front of their eyes, they rue their circumstances daily and are unable to see the world’s beauty and its opportunities. This is mostly due to a victimhood mentality, which they don’t know how to overcome.
This exhibition is a vivid journey through an artist's cognitive awakening; an exploration of what it means to value and be valued.
In association with ATD Fourth World, this powerfully evocative photography exhibition is the result of Stef Ferrucci's desire to support charities in the communities she has been part of: "I am thrilled to use the outcome of one of my lifelong passions: photography, to do some good. I will, therefore, give all proceeds from this event to ATD Fourth World" (Stef Ferrucci)
Exhibition Date: Sunday 23rd November to 19th December 2014.
