Story
I am running the Robin Hood Half Marathon on the 12th of September in aid of the PKD Charity (Polycystic Kidney Disease). This Charity means a lot to me because my Nan was diagnosed with PKD when she was 36 and her Kidneys failed with she was 46. She has had 2 Kidney Transplants and has spent numerous years on dialysis in between. PDK is a genetic disease and both my Mum and I have the gene. It affects around 12.5 million people worldwide and currently there is no cure and no treatment to prevent the condition progressing. The PKD charity was set up in 2001 to provide advice, information and support for people affected and their families. They are working to support research with leading specialists in this field with the ultimate aim of providing a cure for PKD.
With your help we can make a small contribution towards helping them reach this goal and move a step closer to providing a cure. It may not be in time for my Mum or me but hopefully they will be able to find a way to stop the gene being passed on or stop its progression to full blown kidney failure.
Thanks for your support.
