In April this year I will be running two half marathons in aid of the ADSHG, first the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 7th April, then a week later Reading half marathon on 14th April!

As many of you know I was diagnosed with the very rare, lifelong condition Addison’s Disease 12 years ago, after many years of unexplained illness, culminating in me being 5 and half stone, unable to walk more than a few metres and extremely close to dying but luckily diagnosed just in time! (Thanks to my mum not giving up on finding me a diagnosis!) The consultant said I would have died that night in my sleep if he had not seen me 😳😓

I then spent 6 years still suffering from constant nausea and extreme fatigue until I finally got the right treatment tailored specifically for me (again thanks to my Mum not giving up on getting me the right treatment!) 🙌

Back then I never would have dreamed I could run for 30mins without needing a bed rest day to recover, let alone running a half marathon, let alone running two in a week!

When diagnosed I had never even heard of adrenal insufficiency so was very grateful to have ADSHG to turn to. The research they fund and support/advice they provide (including updosing for exercise which I will be needing to complete this challenge, as exercise over 1 hour is considered a stress on the body and I don’t produce the cortisol to deal with it!) is vital to those with adrenal insufficiency.
