Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you may know, I have recently caught the running bug which is ironic as I wouldn't even run for a bus before. I am following the NHS Couch to 5K podcasts and to date the longest time I have run for is 5 minutes. I've been wanting to find a charity to raise money for while pushing myself and The Breastfeeding Network is the right one for me!

They have supported me during my breastfeeding journey with Jack, not only at the beginning when we were struggling but also through their Drugs in Breastmilk Information Service. So whether it's because you're full of cold and want a Lemsip or you need to take antidepressants, they can advise you so that you can make an educated decision.

Through this service, they have been offering independent, evidence-based, confidential information and support via a trained pharmacist and volunteers since 1995. The demand for the service has increased every year and they now receive on average 550 emails per month from health professionals and families. They also have a very busy Facebook page @BfNDrugsinBreastmilkinformation which receives around 600 requests for support every month.

One in every five of the questions they receive via the Drugs in Breastmilk service is related to treatments for mental health issues and there has been a significant rise in these questions over the last few years.

By 31st October 2017, I will have completed my first 5K run (no stopping!) which will take me 30+ minutes. I'll track it by using STRAVA and will keep you update on my progress. So whether mental health, breastfeeding or running is close to your heart, please dig deep and sponsor me.

Thank you x
