Story
I have been selected to be part of the leadership team taking a group of nine 14-18 year old girls from within Girlguiding across the London and South East region to Ghana in August 2017.
This trip is part of an international programme which encourages Girlguiding members to make a positive difference around the world.
Every year, Girlguiding sends hundreds of young women on international trips across the globe – empowering them to take part in vital community development work, explore new cultures and develop their sense of adventure.
Each member of the group (girls and leaders) needs to raise £3100 to cover the costs of 3 pre-trip training weekends, the trip to Ghana itself and a reunion weekend on our return to the UK.
The training weekends will be valuable time for the group to bond and to prepare for our time in Ghana. We will need to learn about the culture we will be entering and plan the finer details of the trip.
In Ghana we will be taking part in a service project, giving the girls the chance to work in local schools, meeting children and teaching them English through interactive sessions, whilst also taking some time to complete construction work improving the facilities currently available. We will also have some time on the weekends for immerse ourselves into Ghanaian culture and to explore all that the country has to offer.
The reunion weekend will be a time of reflection and relaxation. The experience that the group has in Ghana will be one that friends and family back home won't be able to fully understand. The reunion weekend provides the girls with an opportunity to share their emotions after returning back into normal life.
My hope for this trip is that I will be able to give nine girls the trip of a lifetime. I hope that they will be changed through experiencing different cultures and that they will be transformed into global thinkers who will shape the world we live in.
I am delighted to have been selected for this opportunity and very much appreciate your financial support in making it possible.
Thank you!
