So from London I trained and to Mexico I wentto cycle more than 600km across Mexico, on one of the greatest cycling experiences for Macmillan Cancer Support. The 13 day challenge from 26 March – 7 April will saw 41 of us cycle 612 hot, humid kilometers, from the Gulf of Mexico, through tropical farmland and dense jungle down, over mountains, through hail and rain to the Pacific Coast. The Challenge takes took us off the Tourist trail on this epic journey across varied cultures and terrains of Mexico. And what a journey!

It has to be said, this was a life changing experience. A once in a lifetime event, that had its many ups and downs - literally, but we all made it in the end, mosquito bitten, sunstruck, battling the elements, will power and our own physical endurance tested to the enth degree. But more importantly we all did it for the good of Macmillan. And we made it back alive! Huzzah!

I decided to take part because my grandmother was diagnosed having secondary lung cancer and had begun undertaking radiotherapy. Due to her weak condition, unfortunately on the morning of Christmas Day 2010, she passed away. She is sorely missed and all those who met her were touched by her free and passionate spirit. It was my hope that by taking part in this event I hoped to raise over £3,500 in sponsorship before I go, to support others who are unable to cover the costs of their treatment, or support their families whilst undergoing treatment. The funds are still coming in and thank you so much to everyone so far who has donated. You're legends!

In the UK, more than 1 in 3 people will be diagnosed with Cancer during their lifetime and more than 2 million people are currently living with cancer. Macmillan Cancer Support is a UK charity providing the expert care and emotional support which is changing the lives of people living with Cancer today. Each year participants on challenges just like this one raise over £1 million which makes a huge difference to people living with cancer.
