Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Hans and I are all in it for the money, not for us but for the guide dog charity.

To mark the anniversary edition of the RBRR we decided to up the ante a bit and try to be the first ones to finish in a pre-war car.  Unfortunately that did not pan out as expected. With the preparation of the car running delays we will be once more using our Renown.

Not that the Renown is a Spring chicken, with it 66 years it should be well past retirement age. It is also a veteran of 2014 RBRR and the oldest car to have successfully driven the event.

Our secret is that the Renown is actually perfectly suited for the run, comfy and waterproof (to a fashion)and with a torquey low stressed engine coupled to an overdrive box it is capable of maintaining a decent average speed. Where we do come up short is in the twisty bits, suspension is geared for comfort not sportiness and roadholding is more akin to the Exon Valdez in a S'westerly gale. A supertanker should be welcome for refueling also, consumption is not exactly frugal.

After a strenuous process of vetting possible co-drivers I am glad to announce that the co-pilot seat once more goes to Hans, not only was he the only possible candidate, but he is also mad enough to make the attempt with me. It also helped that I made up his mind for him and just resend last runs paperwork to Tim, crossing out 2014 and replacing it with 2016.

So there we are, wish us luck, mock us, pity us or wish us to hell if you prefer, but send your wager-money to Just-Giving care of the Guide dog charity with our compliments!

Please donate whatever you can afford; from some loose coins to part of your Euromillions spoils, any contribution is welcome. If you are skeptical and think we will not make it all the way, why not pledge a sum for each mile we achieve? But be warned that we are going for victory not spoils!

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
