Story
Hello! We are Team Pickle (Helen, Andrew, Robert, Dai, Karen and Tim) and we are entering Trekfest Brecon Beacons 2017 to raise money for Cherish Wrecsam (and Ronald McDonald House Liverpool) as a small thank you for all the help they gave us and continue to give to children and their families.
Trekfest 2017 is a 50km walking challenge through the beautiful Brecon Beacons. The route provides ups, downs and challenging terrain and includes reaching the summit of the highest peak in South Wales, Pen Y Fan at 886m (2,907 feet).
Team Pickle is named in honour of Emily, aka Pickle. Emily had a difficult start in life getting very ill at 2 days of age with sepsis and meningitis. She spent the first week of her life in the Special Care Baby Unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital before needing to be transferred to Intensive Care at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool for more specialist care.
Her early illness has left her with a few medical problems including profound hearing loss, requiring implantation of two cochlear implants at 11 months old, and global developmental delay affecting her mobility, coordination and learning.
Emily doesn’t let any of her problems get in her way. She is a happy, smiley, loving and determined little girl and if she can get through all her many challenges we can definitely walk 50km!
