We support people to help rebuild lives after stroke.

Story

The Breakfast Club originated with 3 people just wanting to run faster.  We're still trying, but now there's more of us and we want to run further as well.

We're running the Paris Marathon on April 11th 2010 and to give some extra motivation for training and general breakfast eating we'd like to raise money for a worthy cause.

The Stroke Association funds and promotes research, which will enhance knowledge both of the frequency, causes and outcome of stroke; and of the effectiveness of interventions aimed at stroke prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.

150,000 people have a stroke each year in the UK – on average that’s one every three minutes. Stroke is the leading cause of severe disability and claims the lives of over 67,000 people each year.

Within East Sussex there is a communication support group in Bexhill that will help people to regain their speech after a stroke.  Your donations will help to support this, and go towards setting up a group in Hastings.

£30 helps 62 people with leaflets like "communication problems after stroke" to help them come to terms with the differences to their lives.

We're almost at the taper point in our training - thanks also to those supporters who are training with us on a Saturday morning - it's great motivation for those early starts!  The long, long runs are under our belts with a couple of lovely jaunts to Eastbourne (and back).  We've not quite welcomed the warmer spring weather, and have faced ice, rain, head winds and fresh temperatures - we'll be prepared for anything come race day.

Most of the team are taking part in the Hastings Half marathon on 21st March for some race practice - and to support the Stroke Association.  We entered as a Stroke Association team and it looks like we've come 2nd - adding an additional £300 to our fundraising total!

We'll keep this page updated, so do come back to see how we're doing - and tell your friends too!
