Messy Play Charity Day · 30 October 2016

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Amelie is a very happy, affectionate little girl, that has demonstrated her sheer strength and determination from the offset.

I want to share with you Amelie's journey, to not only raise awareness but also to help other children and family's that are facing similar situations, and to be able to help in anyway possible.

Amelie was firstly diagnosed with a dairy intolerance at 8 weeks old, shortly after was when she experienced her first seizure at 3 months old. She started with Focal seizures , then 4 months later she then started with a second type of seizure - epileptic spasms (west syndrome).

Amelie went through thorough assessments and tests to find the route cause and has been diagnosed with: Global development delay / suspected ASD / Left temporal lobe epilepsy / Sebaceous Nevus Syndrome

Most recently, in June of this year Amelie has undergone Epilepsy Surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital for extended left temporal lobe resection, to help lessen/stop her seizures.

During our stay at Great Ormond Street on the Koala Ward, we had a team of specialists assigned to Amelie's care that made us feel as comfortable as possible during this experience. All of the day/night Nurses, Epilepsy team, Doctors, Surgeon, ward staff, play therapists, physiotherapist to name just a few.

With in the Koala ward they have play rooms for all ages, equipped with toys / arts & craft / sensory room to make the children feel at home and keep them busy and happy during there stay. They have a play therapist that works in the play room full time to help the children during there recovery. They also have companies that visit the ward on a daily/weekly basis, whether it is singing / magician / telling stories etc

Amelie enjoyed this so much during her recovery and I believe this helped her bounce back to recovery as quickly as she did.

Our mission is to raise as much money as we can, to give back and for other children to continue to have this experience during their recovery.
