On 1st & 2nd October Seth Wainwright and Bjorn Blanchard (birdwatchers) teamed up with Elissa Weston and Gemma Dobbins  (elegant drivers) and Lucy Footman and Karen Ablewhite (navigators) for Credit Suisse's first ever 48-hour Big Twitch to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society. We visited 12 reserves over the course of a wet and windy 2 days. We covered 270 miles and spotted 103 species of bird, including 4 scarcities (Buff Breasted Sandpiper, Barred Warbler, Balearic Shearwater and Long Tailed Skua).

Swarovski kindly lent us binoculars and spotting scopes, which helped us get up close to birds. Rare Bird Alert generously donated pagers for the weekend so we got to hear about unusual sightings before everyone else did (without their help we would not have seen Barred Warbler or Buff Breasted Sandpiper at Dungeness).
