Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page

Please note this is for UK donations - details on how and where to donate to help in other countries are shown below.

Currently medical staff like my sister-in-law are working long , arduous & exhausting shifts and we should all support and salute them as the heroes that they are.

But this campaign is about a different set of unseen everyday heroes....

Whilst almost every industry globally has been affected by C19 Virus few have been hit as fast, as hard and will be affected for as long as the live entertainments industry.  No events means no work and no work means no money for many in our industry who work freelance from show to show.

Why should you care?

If you go, or have ever been to watch a show, a concert chances are all you will see are the bright lights, all you will hear are the songs and you will go home energised and happy. To make these shows happen there is an army of people sound engineers, lighting crew, staging crew, video teams, catering staff, stage hands, security, truck drivers, merchandise sellers, venue staff. The bigger the show, the bigger the infrastructure to make it happen and the bigger the backstage army in place. Night after night, day after day, they work in small teams, overcoming numerous inevitable problems, against a ticking clock to make sure you enjoy your show. These are the people who live and breathe the motto “The show must go on”.

As currently there are no shows and whilst many of this global family are helping society combat C19 by helping create emergency facilities, donating communications expertise or working in food and medical supply logistics, many are facing severe financial hardship - this effort is for them.

I’ve been lucky to work within this industry for 30 years and count all these people as part of a common family - if not in blood then in spirit - and so if I am lucky enough to still have my job then it’s up to me and people like me to help out our brothers and sisters who aren’t as lucky..

So to raise funds I will be riding my bike on a trainer (so as not to break strict French lockdown regulations). My theoretical route will be from L-Acoustics HQ in Marcoussis to each of the other companies in the L-Acoustics Group. From Marcoussis to Keskatel (home of Simea, our woodwork co) then onto Wenden in Germany (home of Camco) then heading back to the L-ISA HQ in Highgate, London before heading south and back to France and to Amboise (where the metal fabricators HGP are based) before heading back to Marcoussis and L-Acoustics - a trip of around 2,000km and around 8,000m of ascent/climbing. I will attempt this in addition  to working my normal daily hours and am aiming to finish by the 11th May 2020 when The French Government will lift some of the lockdown restrictions currently in place.

I’m doing this not just in the UK but for crews around the world and you can find further fundraising details below (more as I have details)

Australia - Support Act - https://supportact.org.au  at https://give.everydayhero.com/au/cycle-back-2-work

South Africa - SOS with Feed Our Crew https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/feed-our-crew

I will be using Zwift for this ride and will post daily reports on mileage, etc etc and I invite you to come ride with me with Zwift meet-ups  - I am expecting to ride both in the morning and early evening Paris Time. Send me an email or a message and I’ll send you details of how to ride with me on zwift.
