Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last year the legal walk raised over £380,000.  We want to raise even more this time, and I aim to beat my previous total.

Half of all I raise will go to the London Legal Support Trust and the other half to the CAB at the Royal Courts of Justice.  In both ways, invaluable support can be given to the increasing number of people caught up in the legal system who cannot afford lawyers and are not eligible for legal aid.  In the present economic circumstances, the need for help from these centres is all the greater, while other sources of funding for them are under threat.

Last year the RCJ CAB received over £30,000 from the walk.  This was enough to sustain a paid post at the Bureau, which enables them to provide in-depth specialist advice and casework to an additional 450 people over the year.

To take one example, dealing with intransigent authorities is a challenge faced by many who ask the Bureau for help. A case in point was a man whose local council (his landlord) sued him no less than five times (each unsuccessful) to evict him from his property because he insisted on paying his rent in the way stated in his rent book.  The tenant felt harassed by the council's persistent claims.  He sued the council under the Protection from Harassment Act.  The council got his claim struck out as being hopeless, and the Bureau then helped him with his appeal. He got permission to appeal from the Court of Appeal and represented himself at the appeal hearing, when he was successful.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: London Legal Support Trust and the CAB will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please dig deep and sponsor me now, online (or offline if you prefer)!

Many thanks for your support.
