Story
On the 12th March I will be running the Bath half marathon in aid of Skin Cancer Research.
As many of you are aware, our lives changed in December 2014, when Julian was diagnosed with stage 2a malignant melanoma. He was extremely lucky in that it was caught at an early stage, after several operations he is now on 3 monthly checks and doing great.
Melanoma is the fifth most common cancer in the UK. Around 13,500 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed each year.
More than a quarter of skin cancer cases are diagnosed in people under 50, which is unusually early compared to most other types of cancer. Over recent years, skin cancer has become much more common in the UK. This is thought to be the result of increased exposure to intense sunlight while on holiday abroad. More than 2,000 people die every year in the UK from melanoma.
You can help the fight against skin cancer by sponsoring me and donating to The Skin Cancer Foundation. Fund public education and early detection programs, medical seminars, and groundbreaking research.
