Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am fundraising for JTYAF as a part of JL23 and I will be walking 295 km over the next 4 months, to raise money to help young people develop as individuals and fulfill their ambitions.

The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JYYAF) was set up in memory of John Thornton who was tragically killed in Afganistan in 2008.  The JTYAF provides opportunities for young people to help them to develop as individuals and fulfill their ambitions in life as John was able to do.

I am currently a sergeant in the RAF Air Cadets and a member of 295 (Witham & Rivenhall) Squadron.  This is the reason I choose to walk 295km.  This year I have been lucky enough to gain a place on the Junior Leaders Course 23.  A course John Thornton also graduated from as top graduate of Junior Leaders Course 4.

The Air Cadets Junior Leader Course is physically demanding and requires real commitment and determination.  The course, which runs from September to Easter, it involves five weekend training camps and an assessment week.  It is a big step up from the other Cadet Leadership Courses.  It also culminates in the award of a Level Two Certificate in Team Leadership from the Institute of Leadership and Management.

About the charity

The objective of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation is to encourage and assist young people to 'climb as high as they can dream', by providing annual scholarships and bursaries for their training and personal development in the pursuit of their ambitions.
