Im running the London Marathon for Turn2us as I can relate to the issues they help families out with everyday. Being the second out of six children growing up in a single parent family (for the majority of the time), I witnessed my mother really struggle to cope financially, physically and mentally. In fact one of my earliest memories (I was maybe about 6 or 7) is of my mum receiving a phone call from the benefits people and being told her money was being cut. I remember this as she was crying her eyes out and pleading with the person on the phone. At that time she was putting herself through college and bringing up five kids on her own as my father (who was physically and mentally abusive to all of us) had left leaving my mother with huge debts. Looking back, this is the best thing that he could have done. Many unsettled years followed with 4 house moves and 3 school moves, the final school change was me bing sent to a specialist school due to non attendance. I was in a very low place and was struggling, smoking and drinking from around the age of 14. I spent a lot of time looking after my younger siblings especially when my mother suffered a breakdown and spent a month or so in hospital when I was about 15. Through this time I felt very lonely and depressed. I believe that if the services of a charity like Turn2us had been available in the beginning, our lives could have been made easier and the problems we suffered later my have been avoided. 

This is just a small insight into how things where growing up, mainly patterns repeating themselves debts, breakdown in relationships and then a change of scenery leading to disruption, insecurity and depression, all of which Turn2us can help families with. So please, if you or you know somebody who's struggling get in touch with Turn2us, on the flipside if your super secure and grounded give all you can to this great charity and go to bed with the warm feeling that life is great and you've just helped society out of a hole x
