Story
John and myself arrived at the Douglas Bader Rehabilitation Centre in Roehampton on the same day in July 2013. We left on the same day several weeks later in September having spent endless hours working through extensive fitness programmes to help us achieve function, mobility and independence. John, a builder, had four limbs amputated following infection, yet despite this he always had a positive attitude, and showed determination to adjust to his new life, celebrating taking his first steps after being fitted with prosthetic limbs, and adapting tools and equipment to help him with everyday tasks. There was so much he achieved that normal people just take for granted. John was a regional representative for Limb Power which was launched to engage amputees in physical activity to improve quality of life, and John loved life. He loved his wife, his sons, his dogs. He spoke of them often. Tragically, infection struck a second time and John passed away. To show respect for John's love of life, and as an amputee myself, I am climbing Scafell Pike in Cumbria, England's highest mountain, on Saturday 20th May 2017, in order to raise funds for Limb Power so that they can continue to engage amputees in physical activity, sport and the arts to aid lifelong rehabilitation. All funds raised will go towards the work of Limb Power. JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. JustGiving do not sell your details or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to Limb Power. I appreciate your support. Thank you.
